This webpage features notices from the Ottawa Wildflower Seed Library, such as notices about incorrectly labelled seeds and plants.
One of the Seed Library’s values is reciprocity–we encourage our community to donate seeds and plants. While we have processes in place to ensure the seeds and plants that are donated and shared by the Seed Library are correctly labelled, there may be instances where seeds and plants have been mislabelled. We will let our community know on this page when we are made aware of these instances and we apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.
September 2025
- Straw Coloured Flat Sedge (Cyperus strigosus) was in fact the non-native Yellow Nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus). Please only donate if you have received your seeds from us 2025 onward.
August 2025
In the December 2024/January 2025 seed mailout:
- Blue Vervain (Verbena hastata) seeds were labelled Narrow-leaved Vervain (Verbena simplex) and Hoary Vervain (Verbena stricta) seeds.
- Upland White Goldenrod (Solidago ptarmicoides) seeds were in fact Panicled White Aster seeds (Symphyotrichum lanceolatum).
- Sweet Joe Pye Weed (Eutrochium purpureum) seeds ended up being Spotted Joe Pye Weed (Eutrochium maculatum).
August 2023
We noticed that our Anise hyssop (Agastache foeniculum) seeds were cross-pollinated with Korean mint. Please do not donate any Anise hyssop seeds nor plants that you received before 2024.
